Convention on Biological Diversity - Belgian Clearing House Mechanism
Een gedegen en fraai vormgegeven naslagwerk, voorzien van uitgebreide inleidende hoofdstukken over bijen in Nederland. It contains among others information on how to develop an ABS policy, features the Principles on Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit-sharing for Participating Institutions developed by a number of botanic gardens and herbaria, as well as some case studies.
The Principles promote the sharing of benefits arising from the use of genetic resources acquired prior to the entry into force of the Convention, in the same manner as for those acquired thereafter. It covers the noncommercial exchange of plant material between botanic gardens. Botanic gardens that want to join the network must adopt the IPEN Code of Conduct and use its common existing-instruments-guidelines-codes-of-conduct-and-tools-addressing-absuments for plant material transfer. It covers acquisition, maintenance and supply of living plant material by the gardens as well as benefit-sharing.
The Institute for Biodiversity Network ibn on behalf of the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation analyzed the structure and content of the recent strategic plan and its targets and on this basis developed concrete and realistic proposals for the further development of the strategic plan or a new target system.
These proposals were discussed with stakeholders and experts from science, NGOs and civil society first in a workshop at national level in Berlin programme and then at the European level in Bonn programme. Other European initiatives on the post biodiversity framework were also presented during the European workshop. The workshops focused on the following questions:. Type the keyword "trefwoord" "bos" to see the Flemish regulations on forests and forestry. Type the keyword 'visserij' fishing in general or 'riviervisserij' freshwater fishing to obtain information on the relevant legislation.

The first day of the conference presented a general overview of current scientific knowledge on invasive alien species in Belgium. The second day focused on field experiences and analyse tools we have to our disposal to prevent and control biological invasions. Diabetes is one of the leading causes of impaired wound healing. The objective of this study was to develop a bee venom-loaded wound dressing with an enhanced healing and anti-inflammatory effects to be examined in diabetic rats.
It is the intent and purpose of the Broward County Board of County Commissioners to establish an urban wilderness park system in Broward County to consist of designated wilderness areas that shall be set aside in permanent preserves, protected from incompatible human activity. These areas shall be dedicated in perpetuity as wilderness areas and shall be managed in such a way as to protect and enhance their basic natural quality for public enjoyment and utilization as reminders of the natural conditions that preceded modern civilization.

Like all organisms on the planet, honeybees Apis mellifera are susceptible to infection with a wide variety of viruses. These viruses may produce infections with no visible symptoms or may have devastating consequences on both the individual bee and the entire hive.

Deformed Wing Virus, a member of the Iflavirus group of viruses, has an RNA genome and has had a particularly important impact on bee health. It can be spread between bees in a several ways — bees can infect each other during feeding or grooming activities, drones can pass the virus to the queen during mating and queens can lay infected eggs. The primary and most devastating way that these viruses are transmitted within and between hives involves a parasitic mite, an animal known ominously as Varroa destructor. The talk will discuss the effect that viruses have on the health and behavior of honeybees and will outline the collaborative research activities of Drs.
Evans and Pizzorno over the last 7 years. The Bumblebee Conservation Trust was established because of serious concerns about the 'plight of the bumblebee'. In the last 80 years our bumblebee populations have crashed. Two species have become nationally extinct and several others have declined dramatically. Bumblebees are familiar and much-loved insects that pollinate our crops and wildflowers, so people are rightly worried.
We have a vision for a different future in which our communities and countryside are rich in bumblebees and colourful flowers, supporting a diversity of wildlife and habitats for everyone to enjoy. A growing number of committed supporters are helping our small team of staff make a big difference.
We have over 7, members and are growing fast. Bumblebees are an important and cherished component of our biodiversity. Several species are threatened with national extinction. We aim to ensure that populations of these species have a long-term future in the UK. Our commoner bumblebee species contribute significantly to our economy through the ecosystem service that their pollination of crops provides. Bumblebees also support the wider ecosystem through pollinating a diversity of wild plant species.
Much enjoyment can be gained from an appreciation of bumblebees. Their pollination service is also a clear and compelling example of the link between biodiversity and human health and welfare. We aim to increase the knowledge of the general public and policy makers such that they appreciate and value bumblebees and biodiversity more generally. BBCT's work to support the conservation of bumblebees and awareness of the importance of bumblebees can only be achieved if the organisation is fit for purpose and able to respond to new challenges. We aim to ensure that the organisation is sustainable and effective.

The booklet prepared by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity highlights the importance of sustainable agriculture not only to preserve biodiversity, but also to ensure that we will be able to feed the world, maintain agricultural livelihoods, and enhance human well being into the 21st century and beyond.
At the same time, it seeks to highlight the importance of maintaining the world's biological diversity, upon which agriculture and future production is so dependant. Five fact sheets two pages have been prepared by the CBD Secretariat to provide an overview of important issues related to biodiversity and agriculture and the work of the Convention on Biological Diversity on agrobiodiversity. The Catalogue of Funding Sources is a worldwide compendium of financial institutions, agencies, services and other entities that provide international assistance to biodiversity undertakings in particular in the developing countries and the countries with economies in transition.
It contains financial and related assistance programs identified by Governments in their national reports and is also based on additional research conducted by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity. Drawing on a range of information sources, including National Reports, biodiversity indicators information, scientific literature, and a study assessing biodiversity scenarios for the future [4MB], the third edition of Global Biodiversity Outlook GBO-3 summarizes the latest data on status and trends of biodiversity and draws conclusions for the future strategy of the Convention.
It was released in The Paul Duvigneaud Price was created to promote and to support different initiatives in the theme of the urban development and the urban environment.

The ban on neonicotinoid pesticides will see farmers rely on older, "dirtier" crop protection products which could have a worse effect on wildlife, say beekeepers. It is believed to be the largest in the world — with queens likened to "flying mice". But a bumblebee once common in South America is heading for extinction, scientists fear, as European invaders mass on the doorstep of its last known stronghold.
Our research is investigating the importance of green spaces, natural plant communities and wildlife as components of urban design. The Forum is a network of managers, planners and researchers involved with the environment and nature conservation in urban areas. I decided to use dead bees as the most direct visual way to represent this message, with the most emotional impact," she told Wired. We are a group of scientists, veterinarians, beekeepers, and students from over 60 countries that are working together to better understand honey bee health and to prevent the high numbers of colony deaths that are occurring in many regions of the world. At an expert workshop on April 22nd, in Berlin representatives of universities, universities of applied sciences, research institutes, and federal states environmental agencies discussed about the foundation of a German competence network for urban ecology.
Scientists in Italy believe they have found a molecular trigger by which neonicotinoid pesticides may harm colonies of honeybees. Urban areas have not traditionally been the focus for ecological research, but unless we understand how urban ecosystems function, we will not be able to manage them effectively.
